Pergolesi: Stabat Mater, Laudate Pueri, Confitebor

Pergolesi's Stabat Mater is a setting of 13th century text that expresses the Virgin Mary's suffering as she stands by the Cross. Written for solo soprano and solo alto accompanied by strings, the two singers on this new recording Philippe Jaroussky and Julia Lezhneva perfectly combine to create a youthful vocal bloom with stylistic sensitivity and a capacity to convey the restrained tragedy of the work.
