Two premier guitarists team up for this dual effort from Windham Hill, a collection of evocative guitar-based music with an occasionally jazzy bent. Some of the material has a mystical feel to it, particularly the opening Riders of the Ancient Winds and the title track. The Maiden and the Warrior features some guest sax work from Paul Taylor, but the guitar comes to the forefront on "Samba del Luna," "Tribal Runner", " Fallen Heroes," and "Sweetwater." --Genevieve Williams
