A Song For You

A note from Steve Tyrell: As Leon Russell wrote, "I've been so many places in my life and time / I've sung a lot of songs / I've made some bad rhymes." I guess that's true for me too! Most of the songs I've sung are standards, ripped from the pages of the Great American Songbook. This album has quite a few of those and I'm thrilled to return to that era again. But great songwriting didn't die with the birth of rock and roll. For years, I've carried a torch for songs I also consider classics. Gems brought to life by the powerful pipes of Joe Cocker, Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Elvis Presley, and Willie Nelson - among others. These are timeless tunes and their lyrics tear at your heartstrings. Some are upbeat, some are ballads, but the common thread is that they are all about love - whether you're hoping for it, reveling in it, or just giving it your best shot! This collection of songs ranges from the 1920s to the 1980s. All of these songs speak to me, they touch a chord in me, and I hope they'll do the same for you... because, like the title track says: I'm singin' these songs for you.
